The public will have easier access to obtain their taxpayer identification numbers through the respective divisional secretariat, said state finance minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

That will be finalized by Monday, he said, stressing that a TIN does not necessarily mean having to pay taxes, with the threshold being an income of over Rs. 100,000 per month.

Already, a TIN can be obtained by submitting the national identity card via the Inland Revenue Department’s website.
