CEB employees have warned of stronger action as they held three days of protests against an act to restructure the institution.
The government is yet to respond to demands by members of more than 40 trade unions involved in the campaign.
Speaking to the media in front of the CEB head office in Colombo, Priyantha Wickremasinghe of the consumer coordinators association said they did not want to disrupt electricity supply, but would do their utmost on behalf of the workers.
“The maximum we can do is staying away from work. We will not switch off a single light, but will hand over the keys and leave. Maintain the institution if possible without trained workers,” he said.
Wickremasinghe charged the ‘conceited’ government was not at least prepared to give a hearing for more than 23,000 electricity workers who are protesting on the roads.
They claim a government move to sell national assets in the guise of restructuring the CEB via the proposed CEB act.
It is also alleged the bill aims to swindle the entitlements of the CEB workers.
