Minister of power and energy Kanchana Wijesekara said instructions have been given to the CEB management to suspend and take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee who disrupts services or acts in violation of the guidelines issued by the management.

The proposed reforms of the CEB will be presented to parliament with amendments for approval, he also said on X.

The CEB will also submit the electricity tariff reduction proposal to the PUCSL next week, he said.

Meanwhile, the CEB has issued a circular cancelling the leave of all its employees effective until further notice.

The circular was issued by its acting general manager Narendra de Silva.

The decision was taken as per provisions of the extraordinary gazette No. 2363/02 published on December 18, 2023, making all services connected to the electricity supply and essential public services.

However, employees can obtain leave in case of urgent matters with the approval of an executive officer attached to the respective divisions or branches.

Meanwhile, the CEB Workers’ Union says that they have planned to launch a three-day trade union action, urging the energy minister to withdraw the bill to restructure the CEB.
