Prevalence of the JN 1 variant of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka is yet to be proven, but the situation would be far worse than the last time, if it has already entered the country, public health inspectors have warned.
Head of their association Upul Rohana said the country was now very unsecure without any test kits or vaccines available.
He said the National Audit Office figures showed that 56 per cent of Pfizer vaccines worth Rs. 10.73 billion given to Sri Lanka had expired by July last year.
Due to myths and undue fears, only around 20 pc had come forward to be vaccinated with the third and fourth doses, said Rohana.
He advised the public to seek immediate medical attention if anyone shows symptoms such as cough, headache, cold, vomiting etc.
