A 61-year-old female patient has died at Colombo National Hospital after being administered with carbon dioxide instead of oxygen.

Nuala Thevathasan, unmarried and an executive director at Verite Research, had been admitted for a breast surgery.

The cause of death has been given as respiratory hypoxia.

Health minister Ramesh Pathirana has called a report from the CNH director regarding the death.

Thevathasan’s remains are being kept at A.F. Raymonds at Borella, with funeral due later today (31).

 

600 complaints of medical negligence

 

Minister Pathirana said around 600 complaints of medical negligence are reported annually.

During an inspection tour of Peradeniya Hospital on 29 December, he said the health services which are at excellent levels, would be improved further.
