Measles has raised its head after five years and the health ministry has decided to launch a vaccination drive against the infectious disease next month.
Head of epidemiology Dr. Samitha Ginige told the media yesterday (28) that more than 700 patients have been found since the first case reported in May.
The highest cases are from Colombo, Gampaha and Jaffna while Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Kandy and Kurunegala also reporting patients.
Dr. Ginige estimated between 7,500 and 10,000 persons have not been vaccinated against measles.
