The demand for cakes during Christmas dropped by as much as 75 per cent, said president of the bakery owners association N.U. Jayawardena.
The entire industry has been having a very lean period, he said, due to the economic difficulties of the public.
Eggs and other raw materials are in short supply, with bakeries not getting the imported eggs and had to rely on local products priced at Rs. 55 per egg, he added.
