A slight increase in upper respiratory infections, incidents of influenza, a few COVID and Dengue-positive cases,

diarrhoea and vomiting among children has been reported at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) in Colombo, according to LRH Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera said.

He told the Daily Mirror that due to the rainy weather conditions and the many gatherings, the number of influenza-positive cases and upper respiratory infections has increased.

"There is an increase in diarrhoea-infected patients due to school holidays. Children who go on trips and family outings during the school holidays, and due to unhygienic food and water, the cases relating to diarrhoea and vomiting have increased," Dr. Perera said.

He also informed people with symptoms related to influenza and COVID to wear masks and avoid mingling with people.

It is also advised to follow health recommendations issued by the Health Ministry for COVID patients.
