The CID has been strongly criticized by defence lawyers in the court case into the substandard human immunoglobulin scam.

That was when a related case was called before Maligakanda magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama yesterday (27), where five suspects were produced.

Lawyers for the first suspect, Sugath Janaka Fernando who owns Isolez Biotech Pharma, said the CID had ignored repeated charges by his client that he had only done the bidding of former health minister Keheliya Rambuwella.

The magistrate ordered the CID to record a detailed statement from him with regard to his allegation.

Lawyers also questioned the CID’s having gone to the home of Rambukwella to record a statement.

Considering that, the magistrate told the CID to follow the normal procedure when recording a statement.

Lawyers for the suspects include president’s counsel Roland Perera, M.M. Suhair, Kalinga Indatissa and Anil Silva.
