Ten MPs, including SLFP leader Maithripala Sirisena, had a closed-door meeting with leading businessman Dhammika Perera, who is being considered by the SLPP to be ts presidential candidate, ‘Deshaya’ newspaper reported.
Most of these MPs are former SLPP government members who now consider themselves as independents.
Details of their discussion have not been revealed.
Perera is among those considered by the SLPP to be its candidate.
Its general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the candidate would be announced three months before the election is declared.
