A total of 1,676 suspects were nabbed yesterday (22) under the ‘Yukthiya’ operation, said the police.
Of them, 119 are being detained, while assets investigations are to begin against 45 others.
Also, 112 drug addicts will be sent for rehabilitation.
Among those arrested are 132 who are wanted by the narcotics and special bureaus.
Drugs seized during the day are 692 g of heroin, 393 g of ice, 42.1 kg of cannabis and 235,680 cannabis plants, 483 g of hashish, 11 kg of mawa, 534 g of ash, 32 g of thul, 1.2 kg of madana modaka and 20,615 tablets.
Assets worth Rs. 30 M seized from Bemmulla
In Gampaha, assets worth more than Rs. 30 million have been seized from a suspected drug trafficker at Bemmulla.
They include two passenger buses, two small lorries, a three-wheeler, five motorcycles and a 65-inch television set.
The suspect and his wife are in hiding.
More assets confiscated
During the day, more assets belonging to organized criminals and drug traffickers were confiscated.
They include a 45-foot multiday fishing vessel, a KDH van, a Toyota CHR jeep, a Wagon R car, a three-storey building in Hikkaduwa, a four-storey villa and a three-storey villa near Mahamodara bridge in Hikkaduwa and 30 gold sovereigns.
The estimated value of all these is close to Rs. 134 million, said the police headquarters.
Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon observed two of the confiscated properties in Galle.
In Colombo, a man has been arrested along with 19 motorcycles stolen in the western and southern provinces.
Aim of ‘Yukthiya’ & results
Police spokesman Nihal Talduwa said the islandwide crackdown with the entire police force involved aims to dismantle the network of organized crime and drugs.
Launched on 17 December with focus on western, southern and northwestern provinces, it has so far given successful results, said the SSP.
