Siri Ranasinghe, a highly respected and senior journalist in Sri Lanka, retired from his position as the editor of Lankadeepa, yesterday (22).
Having dedicated 63 years to journalism, he spent an impressive 33 years as the editor of Lankadeepa, the country’s leading newspaper.
Ranasinghe is considered a living legend, having witnessed and reported on significant social and political changes throughout recent history.
As the first in Sri Lankan print media history to serve as the editor of the same newspaper for a consecutive 33 years, Siri Ranasinghe has left an indelible mark on the industry.
He played a pivotal role in making Lankadeepa the most popular newspaper in Sri Lanka for seventeen consecutive years.
In 1961, Siri Ranasinghe partnered with Ranjith Wijeyawardene, whom he met at the Lakehouse Institute, to relaunch Lankadeepa on September 11, 1991.
Siri Ranasinghe served as its editor until his retirement, leaving an unmatched legacy in Sri Lankan journalism.
A ceremony to commemorate his 33-year media mission was held on Wednesday (20) “Siri Asiri,” at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
