The CID has resumed questioning activists of the anti-government ‘Aragalaya’ last year, especially those who had entered Temple Trees.

Police say 15 of them have been taken before courts and the process of their interrogation has begun.

Nalinda Cooray, Nadeera Francis, Dabare Gamage and two others were summoned to the CID on 18 December with regard to their roles in the people’s uprising.

They said they were inquired about any damages or theft of property at Temple Trees.

On the following day, Galle Face activist Priyath Nikeshala was summoned, with more similar summoning expected.

‘Aragalaya’ activists allege the government intends to frighten the people who vent their feelings at economic hardships and the sale of public assets.

They cast suspicions over the resumption of their questioning under acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was accused of aiding the assault on ‘Aragalaya’ by gangs led by SLPP politicians.
