A total of 2,166 suspects were arrested in the islandwide operation titled ‘Yukthi’ within the past 24 hours, said the police.
Detention orders have been obtained for 66 of them, while asset investigations are being carried out into 14 others.
Also, 226 have been sent for rehabilitation.
Among those arrested are 169 in the wanted lists of the narcotics and special bureaus.
Up to now, 1.37 kg of heroin, 556 g of ice, 7.8 kg of cannabis, 3.5 kg of mawa and 1,075 tablets have been seized.
Vehicles of drug traffickers seized
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan police seized vehicles worth over Rs. 67 million from individuals suspected of involvement in these illegal operations during raids conducted by the Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Divisionover the past 24 hours.
Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon was also on site to inspect the seized vehicles.
"Even if those engaged in the drug trafficking have fled the country, they cannot take their possessions with them. We will confiscate all of their assets. They cannot escape justice," he said.
