A total of 2,121 crime suspects have so far been arrested in a joint army and police operation launched in the early hours of yesterday (17) morning.

Titled ‘Yukthi’, it is being carried out on the instructions of public security minister Tiran Alles and led by acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Twelve of the arrestees are being detained for investigation, said the police media unit.

Asset investigations are underway against five others, while 133 have been sent for rehabilitation.

Arrested during the operation are 116 persons wanted by the Narcotic and Special Bureaus.

Police, STF, Army personnel are involved in the operation.

It also netted 2.232 kg of heroin, 769 g of ice, 178.916 kg of cannabis, 35.89 kg of ash, 6262 g of mawa, 102 g of thul and 3,489 tablets.
