Steps will be taken to confiscate all property and wealth earned illegally through drug smuggling and underworld activities within the next three months, Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakkon said yesterday (16).

He made this remark at an event held in Ambalangoda.

He said underworld activities are rampant in the Western and Southern Provinces which amounts to 7 percent.

The Acting IGP said some 1,091 individuals have been identified as being engaged in underworld activities and that information on 790 among them have been gathered by now.

He said CCTV cameras have been fixed at the counters of the exit terminals at the airport to prevent them from fleeing the country with forged passports.

The Acting IGP further said that some 70,000 individuals with open warrants are at large in the country and that their whereabouts are unknown.
