Artistes have called for the setting up of a national level independent authority for the maintenance of their professionalism.
They met justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe yesterday (07) and asked him to table an act in parliament for the formation of such a body.
Rajapakshe asked that a committee comprising senior and veteran artistes be tasked with submitting a report in that regard within a month.
Once their report is received, the government can do the necessary legal work, he said.
The minister urged artistes to make use of the opportunity to establish their intellectual property and other rights.
