The government’s intention of appointing an acting police chief for the next three months came under discussion at the cabinet meeting yesterday (27), nethnews.lk reports.

However, no decision was reached by the ministers.

The president decided to consult the cabinet before sending the name of senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon to the Constitutional Council as the acting IGP.

C.D. Wickramaratne retired as the police chief on 24 November, after having served three extensions.

Meanwhile, police media spokesman Nihal Talduwa said the nine senior DIGs will be in full charge of their respective provinces until the appointment of an IGP.

Before his retirement, Wickramaratne gave them the necessary instructions, said SSP Talduwa.
