A protest by fishermen in Mullaitivu has taken place against poaching by Indian trawlers in their waters.
The district’s fisheries association organized the agitation in front of the district secretariat yesterday (24).
Its president V. Arulnathan urged authorities to save their livelihood from poaching.
Indian trawlers exploit our fish resources and also destroy our fishing equipment, he noted.
Protestors handed over a petition addressed to the president and the fisheries minister, detailing their grievances.
The district secretary promised to raise their issued with the authorities.
