The transgender community staged a march and protest in Jaffna town on 19 November against the various maltreatments they face in society.
It was the culmination of a weeklong awareness campaign organized by them.
Protestors called for a halt to the harassment of trans people in public places and their recognition within families.
A protestor, Rosani Malika, said they were ignored in the job market, and not recognized for their livelihoods such as dancing.
Society does not allow trans people to come out with their numerous talents, but only accuses them of misbehavior, she said.
