The Eravur circuit court has ordered 13 Sinhalese to end their forced occupation of a pastureland at Madavanai in Batticaloa.

The order came on 13 November in connection with a case filed by the Mahaweli Development Authority alleging illegal occupation of its land for residential and agricultural activities.

After finding the Sinhalese unable to provide proof of ownership of the land, magistrate Anwar Sadat ordered them to leave the land.

Tamil Dairy farmers allege 150 Sinhalese families are carrying out Chena cultivation in 2,500 acres of their pasture.

They have been staging an indefinite protest at Sittandy to demand the release of their land.
