Parliament yesterday (10) passed a private member’s proposal to raise youth representation in decision-making.
MP Premnath C. Dolawatte presented the motion for amending the local government polls ordinance.
It envisages ensuring a minimum of 25 per cent representation of youths in the first and second nominations at LG polls.
Drafting of the proposal was supported by lawyer Akalanka Hettiarachchi and Sanjeewa Wimalagunaratne of the Institute of Politics in 2022 as well as Satya Gaveshi organization.
The move has been welcomed by several youths organizations.
