Parliament is now debating a proposal for the removal of office-bearers of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The opposition moved the proposal, seconded by the government side.

A vote is due at 5.30 pm, said chief opposition whip Lakshman Kiriella.

Sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe too, expressed his view with regard to the proposal.

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday suggested that a proposal be moved for the removal of SLC officials.

Chief government whip Prasanna Ranatunga alleged the opposition was trying to gain advantage from the cricket issue.

Meanwhile, a new draft constitution for the SLC will be tabled by the government during the debate, said the Presidential Secretariat.

Prepared by the K.T. Chitrasiri Committee, it was handed over to a ministerial subcommittee headed by minister Ali Sabri yesterday.
