Sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe today (08) explained his decision to cancel the registration of Sri Lanka Cricket and appoint an interim governing committee in its place.

Making a statement in parliament, Ranasinghe said he took the measures in view of the corruption and irregularities that have reportedly taken place in the institution.

“People have trusted me and voted me. I will never violate their trust even if I have to go home. I have pointed out the mistake. We must show president the correct way forward in this journey. If we are together, we should not evade responsibility until someone gets into trouble. I am fulfilling that responsibility on behalf of the people,” he said.

“This cannot be changed in this manner. I ask all – the president, prime minister, government, cabinet, opposition, 225 MPs and the entire country – to support me to expel the corrupt, fraudsters who have destroyed cricket and promoted betting in this country,” he stressed.
