Chief executive officer of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Dr. Vijith Gunasekara has been recalled to the Health Ministry.
The secretary to the ministry has cited a service requirement for the move which comes after Dr. Gunasekara complained to the CID over the immunoglobulin scam.
Isolez Biotech Pharma has been accused of faking documents and supplying 22,500 substandard vials to state hospitals, claiming they were imported from India although they had actually been produced locally.
Its owner Sugath Janaka Fernando alias Aruna Deepthi is in remand custody.
Fernando, Dr. Gunasekara as well as the ministry’s director of supplies Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake have been imposed with a foreign travel ban by courts.
