An injunction has been issued to the director general of Customs against holding seven imported electric cars.

The court of appeal yesterday (01) took up a petition filed by Overland Automobile Pvt. Ltd. and also made an interim order that prevents the arrest of its managing director Daham Perera or any other employee.

Lawyer for the petitioner, Faiszer Musthapha, said his client has been a renowned vehicle importer that has dealt with the Customs in a very trustworthy manner.

The seven cars had been imported as per permission granted to expatriate workers to import electric vehicles.

Releasing the vehicles was prevented, with Customs alleging the documents were illegal.

The petitioner also claimed he had been threatened with extortion, getting a telephone call to pay Rs. 100 million or risk his life.
