Teacher trade unionist Joseph Stalin has castigated sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe for ridiculing the teaching profession and denying children their rights.
In a statement, the secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union referred to Ranasinghe’s criticism of a protest against him at Ibbagamuwa Central College in Kurunegala on 25 October.
Teachers staged an agitation in a show of denouncement of the government crackdown on a demonstration on the previous day by principals and teachers.
The minister issued a statement, claiming it to be a bad precedent and belittling the entire teaching community, said the CTU leader.
It is a joke by politicians who have ruined education and made the entire country bankrupt to criticism teachers.
The minister has fallen to a low, suspending development work at the school and denying children their right, Stalin added.
