The main reason for the irregularities taking place in the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) is the deletion of its database, said President of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh.
Persons responsible for that fraud are making a return to the NMRA courtesy certain parties, he told the media yesterday (29).
Kumudesh said the government was reportedly considering the removal of chairman and the CEO, with the persons guilty of the data theft to be instated again in an attempt to cover up their previous wrongs.
In the meantime, a health ministry official said the chairman and director board of the NMRA will be changed within days.
The institution has come under fire recently over the import and distribution of substandard medicines and the deletion of its database.
In the midst of all these, president Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Dr. Ramesh Pathirana as the new health minister.
