Police in Kalutara have found an underground moonshine distillery in a house in which a leading political party has a branch office.
A suspect, aged 42, arrested is said to be a candidate for Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha.
The place had been obtained on Rs. 30,000 monthly rent purportedly to run a three-wheeler repair and painting business.
Searching the house, police broke open a padlocked door and found an underground room, where distilling equipment and 10 barrels containing two million ml of Goda were kept hidden.
