MP Udaya Gammanpila has alleged the president has presented a paper to the cabinet that paves the way for a bigger fraud than the Central Bank bond scam.
The proposal on 08 September is for zero tax on semi knockdown electric and hybrid vehicle imports, with the advantage going to an assembler already having agreements with the BOI.
Another cabinet paper submitted by the president in August allows Senok Automobile Assembly to get exempted from a 30 percent customs duty.
Gammanpila said these will give the company monopoly on electric and hybrid vehicles.
“This shows the government is not prepared to reduce by an iota the crony and deal politics although Sri Lanka is in a bad economic crisis,” he stressed.
