Substandard medicines are forcing doctors to prescribe more than the required dosages to save patients’ lives, said deputy director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana.
He has told ‘Deshaya’ newspaper that this has caused a lot of problems for the doctors.
Dr. Bellana disputed a Health Ministry claim that the state health system was now treating a patient population increased by 40 per cent, noting that substandard medicines were making them to seek treatment several times.
