Ruling and opposition MPs who are medical professionals yesterday (18) agreed to intervene in national health issues.

The agreement came at a meeting they had together with the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) at the parliamentary complex.

Focus of the one-hour long discussion was on remedial measures for the brain drain of doctors and the resultant issues in the health sector.

The GMOA noted that 400 specialist doctors and 2,000 doctors had left the country in the recent past.

The MPs decided to take up these issues with other stakeholders as well.

Among the participants were Channa Jayasumana, Tissa Vitarana, Ramesh Pathirana, Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Rajitha Senaratne, Seetha Arambepola, Thilak Rajapakse, Upul Galappatti, Gayashan Nawanandana and Kavinda Jayawardena.
