The cabinet has approved the formation of a committee to create a national policy to recognize medical degrees from top 1,000 foreign universities.

This policy is expected to update standards in the local health sector in line with current needs.

This proposal, backed by the health minister, aims to boost the recognition of foreign medical qualifications in Sri Lanka.

In May this year, ministers approved the appointment of a committee headed by the secretary to the prime minister to prepare a national policy in this regard.

The proposed policy will include the standards and criteria for the recognition of medical degrees offered by internationally recognized universities.

It will also make appropriate recommendations to amend the provisions of the Medical Ordinance to suit the current needs.
