Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has accused the government of plotting to postpone elections due next year.
Every action possible will be taken against its continuous anti-democratic attempts to put off elections, he said in a statement.
Now, it is speaking about ‘changing the electoral system’, which is a piece of cake laced with poison to lure the public, but it cannot deceive them, he said.
There are examples from everywhere in the world that attempts by rulers without a public mandate to continue in power have ended in tragedy, said the opposition leader.
He asked the present regime if it was planning to take the country back to such a dark time in history.
