C.D. Wickramaratne completes his second service extension today (09) as the inspector general of police.
He was given a three-month extension for the second time by president Ranil Wickremesinghe on 09 June.
Wickramaratne was appointed the 35th IGP in November 2020 and was to retire on 25 March this year.
Presidential Secretariat sources said a decision was yet to be taken whether he would be given a third service extension or a new police chief appointed.
The president is expected to discuss the matter with the public security minister following a meeting of the cabinet this morning.
