Wealthy businessman Dhammika Perera has expressed his desire to contest at the next presidential election.

He has told ‘Deshaya’ newspaper that he would be a candidate only if he is assured of a 51 per cent of the votes.

Explaining further, Perera said consensus among a majority of the parties over his candidature would give a big boost to his chances at the election.

Noting that he is already an MP of the SLPP, he said that he has stepped down as chair of the around 18 leading companies owned by him after appointment to parliament.

Answering a question, Perera said his DP Education programme is intended to arm the youths with knowledge to secure them economic opportunities.

The programme benefits 1.5 children from 1.1 million families, with plans to raise the number to 1.65 million within two years through DP Education IT Campus initiative, he added.
