In a surprising move, Uvais Mohamed, the chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL), has stepped down from his positions.

In a post on X, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said Uvais Mohamed paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday evening (Oct 03) to bid farewell and had submitted his notice of resignation due to personal and professional commitments, he added.

Minister Wijesekara extended his gratitude to Mr. Uvais Mohamed for serving in these posts for 14 months under most challenging circumstances and for his dedication and services during his tenure.

Meanwhile, Saliya Wickramasuriya, an experienced executive with a demonstrated history of working in the E&P and energy industry in both the international service sector and Government, is tipped to take over the reins from the former chairman.
