A mobile phone app is to be introduced to issue early warnings about incidents that disrupt national reconciliation, said the Office for Unity and Reconciliation.

It will be launched on international day of peace this year on 22 September by premier Dinesh Gunawardena and justice minister Dr. Wijedasa Rajapakshe.

This early warning system will be implemented via a data transmission network by reconciliation committees with a membership of more than 350,000.

A total of 14,022 reconciliation committees are now being formed island-wide.

These committees will identify instances that have the potential to disrupt reconciliation and respond rapidly.

Several other events have also been planned to mark international day of peace.
