Cabinet approved has been granted to introduce stronger laws to punish those who post nude pictures and videos on social media.
The CID receives complaints on a daily basis about such instances.
According to the draft laws, a first time offender can be sent to prison for a maximum of five years and has to pay a fine not exceeding Rs. 500,000.
A repeated offender could face double the prison term and the fine.
Thus approved, public security minister Tiran Alles’ cabinet paper to prohibit obscene communications will now be gazetted.
