Unable to find employment to suit their qualifications, more than 1,000 Sri Lankan engineers, lawyers and accountants have been forced to work at restaurants, petrol sheds and supermarkets in foreign countries, said Foreign Ministry sources.
In the case of doctors, they have been able to secure employment mostly in the medical profession.
According to ministry sources, over 5,000 qualified Sri Lankan professionals have gone abroad, which they inclined to do following the coronavirus pandemic.
Most of the medical professionals have gone to England and Australia in search of greener pastures.
