State ministers are at war with the secretaries of their subject ministries.

They had a meeting with the president and the prime minister a few days ago, where they said they were unable to work with the secretaries any longer.

Present at the talks were 35 of the 38 state ministers, including Suren Raghavan, D.B. Herath, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Arundika Fernando, Shantha Bandara and Lasantha Alagiyawanne.

Some of them even went to the extent of criticizing the subject ministers, at which the president intervened and appeased them.

State ministers accused the secretaries of ignoring their instructions and not providing them with the basic facilities at least.

Giving details, they said only opposition MPs are able to get children admitted to government schools in certain districts.

The solution they suggested was that they too, be given subjects via gazette notification and secretaries appointed to state ministries as well.

The president responded by informing them that their issues would be resolved through a committee comprising the secretaries to the president and the prime minister.
