IGP C.D. Wickremaratne has undertaken, before the ministerial consultative committee on public security, to look into ethical concerns about videos of traffic offences being leaked to the media.
He did so when consultative committee members pointed out that there had been instances where some traffic policemen filmed traffic offences and released videos to the media with no heed for the offenders’ privacy.
The Committee was of the view that the police must respect the privacy of any offender.
The committee meeting was held with minister Tiran Alles presiding.
