Forty-one container-loads of imported medicines and surgical equipment are being kept unsafely in Kelaniya, alleges a health trade union.
Head of the union of health professionals Ravi Kumudesh said this was because the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) was without adequate storage facilities.
The importer, State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC), claimed however, the consignment was safe.
Its general manager Dinush Dassanayake told ‘Aruna’ newspaper a transport supplier in Kelaniya has been permitted to take the medicines to his storages securely.
He admitted a lack of warehouses, with the MSD looking for permanent facilities.
