The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating a member of the National Security Council over his failure to contain the unrest that occurred in the country last year.

The top law enforcement official is being probed on a written order from the attorney general, as recommended by a committee of inquiry comprising armed forces chiefs.

He is facing charges of failing to take steps to maintain law and order and not issuing clear orders for same.

The investigation looks into the protest in front of the former president, arson attacks on the homes of the prime minister and other ministers and failure to ensure the safety of the head of state.

The CID is due to question the official, after which the course of action is to be decided, said AG’s Department sources.
