Almost 90 percent of vehicles on the roads are without emission quality, with 20 pc of the vehicles failing the annul tests, the sectoral oversight committee on power and transport has been told.
At a committee meeting, the Transport Ministry proposed importing public transport buses, for which the committee spelt out specific guidelines.
Its chairman Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda ordered that a report be submitted within two months on the imports of transport buses and the supervision of vehicle emissions.
