State minister of ports, shipping and civil aviation Premalal Gunasekara says he is left with nothing productive except for institutions to which he could only pay occasional inspection visits.

He has told ‘Anidda’ newspaper that the ports in Oluvil and Kankesanthurai and the airports at Palali and Ratmalana are the only institutions gazetted under him.

He alleged that institutions had been allotted to the wish of subject cabinet minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

Gunasekara said he was concerned that he has so far been unable to start a single venture as the state minister.

An attempt to obtain a plot of land from Trincomalee to start a fertilizer production project failed due to the disregard of minister de Silva.

He said it was a waste of public money to pay Rs. eight million for 11 months to maintain an office for him at the World Trade Centre.

Gunasekara went onto charge that according to information he was getting from the public and trade unions, the ministry is a den of corrupt officials who pocket commissions from everything.
