Supplementary medical professionals are on a token strike at hospitals island wide from 8.00 am today (24) to press for seven demands.

Leader of their trade union Ravi Kumudesh said nearly 7,000 radiographers, medical laboratory scientists, pharmacists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists would halt work for 24 hours.

Services of cancer, maternity and children’s hospitals and the central blood bank will not be affected, while volunteers provide life-saving services at other hospitals, said Kumudesh.

They are protesting against delays in amending the recruitment procedure and in issuing the circular for graded promotions, a halt to new recruitments and repression of trade unionists by misusing disciplinary regulations.
