The Movement for a Just Society has expressed concern over a number of recent incidents that could endanger racial and religious harmony.

Its leader, Karu Jayasuriya, urged the nation to resist any act that would jeopardize national reconciliation.

In a statement, he requested all to act with devotion and responsibility towards the country and all religious and cultural heritages.

Jayasuriya said he is making the appeal not to resort to agree to any act by word or deed to bloodshed, in the name of all religious teachers whose teachings are based on nonviolence.

No one should fall for the machinations of extremists, but work without resorting to insults in order to inherit a better country for the future generation, he added.
