The viewing public has been urged against committing any acts that will disturb elephants that go in the annual Esala pageant in Kandy.
Pradeep Miyanapalawa, who is in charge of the elephants fleet at Sri Dalada Maligawa, referred to a minor incident at the second Kumbal Perahera.
An elephant called Ratna had become alarmed by the sounding of a horn by a small child, as it passed viewers soon after leaving the temple.
That elephant bumped into the tusker carrying the casket of relics and started running around.
Mahouts were able to contain the elephant before any damage was caused.
