Public security minister Tiran Alles has said the law would be enforced strictly against any individual or organization found to be taking the law into own hands, or encouraging such acts, by believing statements being made by certain politicians bent on garnering the votes of a particular community.

A statement said the minister’s attention has been drawn to a provocative remark made by a people’s representative with regard to an incident that had taken place in the plantations.

That people’s representative has said that it was a right of the people, if the government and the law do not protect them, to hit back against violence in self-defence.

His remark was given wide publicity by social media, said the statement.

Alles asked estate and other people not to become victims of such hate speech and take the law into own hands.

SJB MP Mano Ganeshan has reacted to a video in circulation online about the violent eviction of a poor estate worker family at Ratwatte division of Elkaduwa Estate in Matale.
